Lord, Convict us!

1 John 2:4-5a “The man who says, “I know Him,” but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in Him.  But if anyone obeys Hid word, God’s love is truly made complete in him.”

There is a saying: “Do what I say, not as I do”.  This is normally said in jest, Lord, but do I really live my life that way?  I may say that I am this or that, but my actions convict me.  I may say, “I forgive so and so for an offense (either true or imagined), but if I walk in bitterness, I am a liar.  If I tell someone else (my children when we all were younger, and my grandchildren of students at school now) to do or not to do something I do not do the same, I am a liar and my actions convict me.

Lord, there are wolves in sheep’s clothing among us as Christians and we need to be wary so we do not fall under false teaching.  The “bottom line” here is that I have to be honest; honest with myself, honest with You, and honest with others, or I will draw people away from the cross not to it.  Lord, may Your Holy Spirit convict me quickly and may I be eager to listen and repent.
