Romans 5:21-24
"Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal? You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you commit adultery? You
condemn idolatry, but do you use items stolen from pagan temples? You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it. No wonder the Scriptures say, “The Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you.” NLT Emphasis is mine.
Sweet Savior, yesterday, You prompted Butch McCarthy to substitute for our regular teacher. You prompted him to teach us about "Practicing the Christian Life". Thank You!
He told a story of a godly American couple and a crass and arrogant American group on a bus in Britain. The Brits got the idea that day that all Americans were like the crass group.
Today, you lead me to read this passage in Romans. In James, You tell me to be a hearer of the Word not only a hearer. It is one thing to be a hearer and not follow what is being said or taught; but quite another to be the teacher and not follow what I teach! If I teach I am doubly responsible. If I live in a hypocritical way to what I teach, it is not only I who sin. My students will sin as well because they will see my disregard for the very thing I teach.
It is no surprise if unbelievers turn away from You, Lord, if I act this way. I am Your ambassador, Lord, and I do not take this position You have given lightly! Help me, Lord, to not only teach what is right and godly, but to live it out daily in every situation so no one would blaspheme Your name because of me.
