2 Peter 2:15b-16 “(they) wandered off to follow the way of Baalam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness. But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey- a beast without speech- who spoke with a man’s voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.”
Lord, I know the story of Baalam; how he accepted money from Israel’s enemy to call down curses on Your chosen ones…and he was one of Your prophets. Greed can do wicked things to the saved and unsaved. Judas Iscariot and Ananias are great examples of that. The “prize” does not have to be billions of dollars either…simply 30 pieces of silver, the price of a common slave. You started this passage; “In their greed they will exploit you with storied they have made up.”
Lord, keep me from greed. Please place a VERY HIGH, HARD, AND INPENETRABLE WALL AROUND MY WHOLE SOUL. I do not want to fall prey to that sin. Keep my eyes, heart, mind, and soul trained on You and Your word. Help me to be grateful and content for what You have given.
