A Blessing from Psalm 20

Psalm 20
“May the Lord answer you when you are in distress:
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
May He send help from (heaven now) and grant you support—
May He remember all of your sacrifices—
May He give you the desire of your heart and make all of your plans succeed.

We will shout for joy when you are victorious
And will lift up our banner in the name of our God.
May the Lord grant you all of your requests.

Some trust in chariots and horses

But we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

More Precious than Gold- Sweeter Than Honey

Psalm 19

Good Morning, Lord!  I exalt You today with David because:
The perfect law- revives the soul.
The statutes-are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
The precepts- are right, bringing joy to the heart.
The commands- are clear, giving insight for living. NLT
Reverence for the LORD- is pure, lasting forever. NLT
The ordinances-sure and altogether righteous.
  • They are more precious
  • more desirable than gold, even the finest gold or silver
  • sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb
A warning to your servant
Great reward for those who obey them.

I find it interesting, Lord, that folks are saying that if you suffer from severe allergies from pollen,  eat a tablespoon of local honey a day and it will reduce your reaction to minimal since the bees work in local pollen to make it.
In this psalm, David is saying that if I delight in, and study Your word each day, It can keep me from sinning against you and make my life better too!

Lord, my prayer and praise to You this morning is the same as David's!
"How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults.  Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don't let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer."
AMEN!

God's Glory In the Heavens

Psalm 19:1-6

Lord, David praises You for creating the heavens that declare Your glory even though they do not speak or have a language.  I understand what he meant.
"The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known.  They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard.  Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. God has made a home in the heavens for the sun.  It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding. It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end. Nothing can hide from its heat."

Lord, even on dark and rainy days when I cannot see the sun rise, I know it does, and I know it is there all day every day...Just like You are!   You taught me years ago...

If It Were Your Only Son, What Would You Do?

John 3:16

This was sent to me by my sweet sister Melody.  I had read it years ago and do not know who wrote it, so my apologies to that person...but it is so heart renching especially in our day.
"Imagine this.
You’re driving home from work next Monday. You turn on the radio and you hear a brief report about a small village in India where some people have suddenly died, strangely, of a flu that has never been seen before. It’s not influenza, but 4 people are dead, so the CDC is sending some doctors to India to investigate.
You don’t think to much about it—people die every day—but coming home from church the following Sunday you hear another report on the radio, only now they say it’s not 4 people who have died, but 30,000 (Kelly, 2010) in the back hills of India. Whole villages have been wiped out and experts confirm this flu is a strain that has never been seen before.
By the time you get up Monday morning, it’s the lead story. The disease is spreading. It’s not just India that is affected. Now it has spread to Pakistan, Afghanistan (where out American troops are), Iran, Iraq, and northern Africa, but it still seems far away. Before you know it, you’re hearing about this story everywhere. The media have now coined it “the mystery flu.” The president had announced that he and his family are praying for the victims and their families, and are hoping for the situation to be resolved quickly. But everyone is wondering how we are ever going to contain it.
That’s when the President of France makes an announcement that shocks Europe: He is closing the French borders. No one can enter the country and that’s why that night you’re watching a little bit of CNN before going to bed. Your jaw hits your chest when a weeping woman’s word are translated into English from a French news program: There’s a man lying in a hospital in Paris dying of the mystery flu. It has come to Europe.
Panic strikes. As best they can tell, after contracting the disease, you have it for a week before you even know it, then you have 4 days of unbelievable symptoms, and then you die.
The British close their borders, but it’s too late. The disease breaks out in Southampton, Liverpool, and London, and on Tuesday morning the President of the US makes the following announcement: Due to a national-security risk, all flights to and from the US have been canceled. IF your loved ones are overseas, I’m sorry. They cannot come home until we find a cure for this horrific disease.
Within 4 days, America is plunged into an unbelievable fear. People are wondering, what if it comes to this country? Preachers on TV are saying it’s the scourge of God. Then on Tuesday night you are at church for bible study when someone runs in from the parking lot and yells, “Turn on a radio!” And while everyone listens to a small radio, the announcement is made: Two women are lying in a hospital in NYC dying of the mystery flu. It has come to America.
Within hours the disease envelops the country. People are working around the clock, trying to find an antidote but nothing is working. The disease breaks out in CA, OR, AR, FL, MA, it’s as though it’s just sweeping in from the borders.
Then suddenly the news come out: The code has been broken. A cure has been found, A vaccine can be made. But it’s going to take the blood of somebody who hasn’t been infected. So you and I are asked to do just one thing; Go to the nearest hospital and have our blood tested. When we hear the sirens go off in our neighborhood, we are to make out way quickly, quietly, and safely to the hospital.
Sure enough, by the time you and your family get to the hospital it’s late Friday night. There are long lines of people and a constant rush of doctors and nurses taking blood and putting labels on it. Finally it is your turn. You go first , then your spouse and children follow, and once the doctors have taken your blood they say to you, “Wait here in the parking lot for your name to be called.” You stand around with your family and neighbors, scared, waiting, wondering. Wondering quietly to yourself, what on earth is going on here? Is this the end of the world? How did it ever come to this?
Nobody seems to have had their name called; the doctors just keep taking peoples blood. But then suddenly a young man comes running out of the hospital screaming. He’s yelling a name and waving a clipboard. You don’t hear him at first. “What’s he saying?” Someone asks. The young man screams the name again as he and a team of medical staff run in your direction, but again you cannot hear him, But then your son tugs on your jacket and says, “Daddy, that’s me, That’s my name they’re calling” Before you know it, they have grabbed your boy. “Wait a minute, Hold on!” you say, running after them. “That’s my son.”
“It’s okay,” they reply. “We think he has the right blood type. We just need to check one more time to make sure he doesn’t have the disease.”
Five tense minutes later, outcome the doctors and nurses, crying and hugging each other; some are even laughing. It’s the first time you have seen anybody laugh in a week. An old doctor walks up to you and your spouse and says, “Thank you.  Your son’s blood is perfect. It’s clean, it’s pure, he doesn’t have the disease, and we can use it to make the vaccine.”
As the news begins to spread across the parking lot, people scream and pray and laugh and cry. You can hear the crowd erupting in the background as the gray-haired doctor pulls you and your spouse aside to say, “I need to talk to you. We didn’t realize that the donor would be a minor and we…we need you to sign a consent form.”
The doctor presents the form and you quickly begin to sign it, but then your eyes catches something. The box for the number of pints of blood to be takes is empty.
“How many pints?” you ask. That is when the old doctors smile fades, and he says,”We had no idea it would be a child. We weren’t prepared for that”.
You ask him again, “how many pints?” The old doctor looks away and says regretfully, “We are going to need it all!”
“But I don’t understand. What do you mean you need it all? He’s my only son!”
The doctor grabs you by the shoulders, pulls you close, looks you straight in the eyes, and says, “We are talking about the whole world here, Do you understand? The whole world. Please sign the form. We need to hurry!”
“But can’t you give him a transfusion?” You plead.
“If we had clean blood we would, but we don’t. Please, will you sign the form?”
What would you do?
In numb silence you sign the form because you know it’s the only thing to do. Then the doctor says to you, “Would you like to have a moment with your son before we get started?”
Could you walk into that hospital room where your son sits on a table saying, “Daddy? Mommy? What’s going on?” Could you tell your son you love him? And when the doctors and nurse come back in and say, “I’m sorry we’ve got to get started now; people all over the world are dying,” could you leave? Could you walk out while your son is crying out to you, “Mom? Dad? What’s going on? Where are you going? Why are you leaving? Why have you abandoned me?”
The following week, they hold a ceremony to honor your son for his phenomenal contribution to humanity…but some people sleep through it, others don’t even bother to come because they have better things to do, and some people come with pretentious smiles and pretend to care, while others sit around and say, “This is boring!”
Wouldn’t you want to stand up and say, “Excuse me! I’m not sure if you aware of it or not, but the amazing life you have, my son died so that you could have that life. My son died so that you could live. He died for you. Does it mean nothing to you?”
Perhaps this is what God wants to say to our world.

Father, seeing it from your eyes should break our hearts. Maybe now we can begin to comprehend the great love you have for humanity with all of our faults and sin.  Maybe now those for whom You gave Your life who use Your blessed name as a curse word and ignore You completely will stop and consider their ultimate destination and turn to You for the forgiveness and life You died to give them.
Lord, revive Your church and forgive the sin of our land and heal us.

The Lord is My:

Psalm 18
Sweet Savior, David praises You for his victory over Saul and all his enemies.  Today, I praise You because"
"I love You, O Lord, my:"
strength-and you make my way perfect
rock- not shifting sand
fortress- You are my protection
shield- of victory and are there to protect me from the arrows of the wicked one
deliverer- from attacks of others
refuge- in You I can hide in times of trouble
horn of my salvation- without You I am doomed
strong hold- against the enemy
sustainer-Your right hand sustains me
avenger- it is not mine to avenge
unfailing kindness- because of Jesus in me
righteousness- for I have none of my own

Like David, I will praise You with all that I have and am.  I will trust You at all times, even when things happen I do not understand.

How Should We Live?

Psalm 15
" LORD, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain? The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others; who despises a vile person but honors those who fear the LORD; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind;who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent."
Lord,  I am to live like this not to secure salvation, but because of it.  We are to live our lives like this so that we are light and salt in a dark decaying world.  If I don't, I will blend in with the unsaved in a bad way, not a winsome way.   You have told us that the condition of our heart determines what comes out of our mouths.  Therefore; "who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor", makes perfect sense if we love our neighbor (brothers and sisters in family and "Family", co-workers, actual neighbors, and to all with whom we come in contact) as ourselves.
And why else would I do these things?  Because You promise, "Whoever does these things will never be shaken."  Thank You, Lord, for Your gracious promise!

Psalm 16
Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the LORD, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing."I say of the holy people who are in the land, "They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight." Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more....LORD, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.  I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Sweet Savior,

These words are such a sweet salve to our troubled souls.  Yesterday, You caused evil doers to come to justice in Boston. Thank You, Lord!  But I got thinking when all of this was going on and remembered something my mother used to say; "There but for the grace of God go I."  I didn't understand it as a child because I didn't understand what Your grace was.  Grace to me was what you said or sang at the table and a girl with whom I went to school.  Now, however, I realize what she (and whoever actually said that originally) meant.  I do not want to even try to think where I would be or what I would be doing now without Your so great salvation because it makes me shudder!
My oldest son Lance and I were talking last night and he told me he often thought of what his life would have been like if he had not trusted You, and he felt the same way.  I am so very thankful, Lord, that You wooed me back in 1974 and finally won my heart.  Then, one by one, You won the hearts of all of our family!  Hallelujah!  What a Savior!

Psalms that Speak to Today

Psalm 11
"I trust in the LORD for protection. So why do you say to me, "Fly like a bird to the mountains for safety! The wicked are stringing their bows and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those whose hearts are right. The foundations of law and order have collapsed. What can the righteous do?" (When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" "When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" But the LORD is in his holy Temple; the LORD still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely, examining every person on earth.  The LORD examines both the righteous and the wicked. He hates those who love violence...For the righteous LORD loves justice. The virtuous will see his face."
Psalm 12
"Help, O LORD, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth!  Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts...They say, "We will lie to our hearts' content. Our lips are our own—who can stop us?"  The LORD replies, "I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for me to do." The LORD's promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over.  Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land."
Psalm 14
"Only fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good! The LORD looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt (or useless).  No one does good, not a single one! Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn't think of praying to the LORD. Terror will grip them, for God is with those who obey him. The wicked frustrate the plans of the oppressed, but the LORD will protect his people. Who will come from Mount Zion to rescue Israel? When the LORD restores his people, Jacob will shout with joy, and Israel will rejoice.

Dearest Savior,

I believe You are doing a work in our country to revive it.  The biblical foundations our country was founded on are being eroded in the ballot boxes, in the courts, and in homes across the land.  Righteousness is seen as intolerant, exclusive, delusional, and even hateful.  The wicked will see their justice.  Our best defense is to fulfill the Great Commission!

Just this week terrorists within our own country for reasons unknown set off explosions at the Boston Marathon killing two and maiming many others.  This morning an MIT University policeman was shot and killed and explosives were found.  In the news there is a report that men were caught making toy car bombs.  A huge explosion in a fertilizer plant killed many and injured hundreds of others.

At times like this people ask, "Where is God?"  "How can a loving God let things like this happen?"  However, in the same state of Massachusetts last November they voted to legalize same sex marriage.  The country is trying to decide whether to legalize marijuana in all 50 states...for medicinal purposes.  There is even some who are trying to get illegal drugs and prostitution legalized.

Across the globe there is unrest, persecution of believers, misuse and abuse of humans by other humans, wars and rumors of wars.  Lord, I find it very sad that You have to allow things like this...things like You had to allow to happen to Israel... to bring people back to You.  What happened after 911?  The churches were full, people were mindful to help their neighbors and families as well as strangers.  There were earnest prayer meetings seeking Your face...for a while.  Then, when it seemed that the danger had passed, we forgot You again.  After the Marathon bombing, there has been an outpouring of kindness, prayers, and help for the victims and their families and an upsurge of patriotism.

Lord, I believe that You are delaying Your return only to allow many more to come to You for salvation.  You are being gracious and patient.  "All have sinned and come short of the glory of the Lord" Romans 3:23 NIV.  "No one does good, not a single one!"  It is easy to look at the evil done by others and puff ourselves up if we see ourselves as righteous in our own strength.  That is called "self-righteousness".  We look at the actions of others and say, "I would never do such a thing!"  However; Lord, You know that, "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" Jeremiah 17:9
In Psalm 12:7b-8 in the NIV it says, "the wicked, who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race."

Lord, You are our ONLY hope!  You know the heart of man and that the "wages of sin is death" Romans 6:23.  But You love us so much that You paid the wages FOR ALL OF US,  even the terrorists, rapists, child molesters, thieves, and murderers.  However; ONLY by trusting in that selfless act of grace and mercy and acknowledging You and You alone as our Savior and Lord can we be saved. You change the hearts of men and make them a new creation.  You do a "heart transplant"!  The only good we do after that is because of You...not us.  We can never boast because our salvation is an undeserved gift paid for by Your precious blood shed for us on that tree over 2000 years ago.  However; "The fool  says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good." Psalm 14:1
We say we love You and then malign another "Family" member, curse, fill our minds with the filth of the world, hate our brothers, sow discord among the brethren, lie, and are still arrogant and selfish, filled with envy, greed, and a disrespect for the authorities You have placed over us.  The things we want to do, we do not, and the things we do not want to do, that is what we do.  Please, Lord, come back and deliver us from this body of living death!  Restore good order in our land, forgive our sins, and heal us, Lord.

God's Timing Not Ours

Psalm 10

Sweet Savior,
David in his time is like us in ours.  We try to figure out why God does not act according to our timeline.  David sees wickedness all around him and wonders why You do not do something about it; why You do not just obliterate all who do evil.
In other Psalms, he says You are his ever present help in time of trouble, but then here he asks why You hide Your face and stand afar off in times of trouble.  He even intimates that You are just sitting around doing nothing when he says, "Arise, Lord!" in verse 12.
Then, as is his custom after his ranting about the wicked, he remembers who he is talking to.  In verses 14, 16-18; he reminds himself that You do see, that You: are King forever and ever, are the helper of the fatherless, do hear the cries of the afflicted and oppressed and encourage them if they put their trust in You.

In the history of just the 20-21st centuries things are not different than they were in David's time.  In World War II there was mass execution of Jews in Germany.  In the late 1900s there was genocide of millions of Christians in Sudan and now in Syria.  North Korea is threatening war with South Korea because of their stand for You, and pastors and other Christians are being held in Islamic and Communistic country prisons, tortured, and martyred for their faith in You. Here in the USA, there is a battle of words raging about homosexual rights, legalizing same sex marriage, and the "right" of women to abort their babies.  Just yesterday the ban was lifted that required a prescription for the "Morning After" pill for girls under 17!
Lord, You said that until Your return, there would be wars and rumors of wars.  Satan hates You and Your "Family" and "Chosen People" because He want to be god himself.  He thinks by eliminating us, he can thwart Your ultimate plan for salvation and Your return.  He wants to show that You cannot keep Your promises.  He is the liar and the father of lies, and is a roaring lion prowling around seeking who he can destroy.
BUT YOU, O, LORD!  You are far more mighty than he is and You cannot break Your promises.  Your plan will be fulfilled in Your timing.  Do You wait so more will come to know You as Savior and be saved and escape the horrors of hell?  I would that You would return today and take Your bride away...but not my will but Yours be done.

The Last "Bible" Series Commentary

I write this commentary not to be critical or judgmental, but to write down what the Lord showed me.  That is...Read His Word if I want the truth!  Do not depend on movies or TV series to give you the truth. I am glad so many are watching them in that it can open up dialog with folks who might never crack open His Word, but find it very sad that the most important things are left out or embellished so that some can be misled.

On Easter Sunday, I watched the movie "King of Kings" and the Bible Series last episode.
Although the old movie "King of Kings" had more of a narrative from scripture, Jesus spoke about the fact that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin.  However; even with the beatings, the crown of thorns, and the crucifixion, there was not a drop of blood shown as shed.

The last segment of  "The Bible" was closer to the scriptures than the other segments.  It covered a very graphic portrayal of the trial and crucifixion and the book of Acts.  But for some reason, They left out when Jesus said , "It is finished!" before he gave up his spirit, leaving room for speculation as to why he was there in the first place.  The "Finished" was the fact that He had completely paid our sin debt and was restored to the Father!  Also the centurion never says, "Surely this was the Son of God!"
Neither showed the tomb being sealed or being guarded.  In the series the earthquake and the tearing of the temple veil were done rather well, but did not really show the veil being torn from top to bottom, but seemed to be more dislodged from the wall because of the earthquake.

In the both the movie and the series resurrection segment, only one woman went to the tomb and there were no angels.  She did hear a voice.  In the series, after that morning, Jesus appears in the room where the disciples are, but the door is wide open instead of locked.  Thomas is with the disciples the "one" time He appears to them. Peter never preaches on the day of Pentecost, but the disciples and Mary Madelene speak in real languages.

The segment about the conversion of Saul was powerfully done and for the most part truthful.  However; at the stoning of Steven, he did not hold the garments of those who were stoning Steven and Steven never said, "Forgive them for they do not know what they do." That was sad.

Lesson learned?  Read the Bible!  It is great for the soul and will let us discern truth from fable like the Barean believers.  I am  not to depend on even those who say they are Christian (and may well be) to tell me what it says.

Praise for the Day after Easter

Psalm 8 "O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength,  silencing your enemies and all who oppose you. When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little lower than God (Elohim in the Hebrew)  and crowned them  with glory and honor. You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority—the flocks and the herds and all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents. O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth" NLT

Sweet Savior!  Reading this Psalm after yesterday celebrating Your resurrection is such sweet praise to You!  I am still totally amazed that You would submit yourself to such ridicule, punishment, and death for me!  I know what a sinner I am, Lord.  Without Your saving grace and resurrection power, I would be the most miserable; condemned to die a sinner's death and be sentenced to Hell for all eternity separated from God forever.
BUT YOU loved me even in my sin and shame and from eternity past saw my need.  You agreed to be my substitute, to taste death for me and only because of Your great love for me.  Lord, I accept Your love and salvation because I know it is true.  I don't know if I will ever understand it this side of Glory.
I will praise Your majestic name, Lord!
