Matthew 11:11
"I tell you the truth, among those born of women there has not risen anyone
greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of
heaven is greater than he."
Lord,
John is in prison and is having second thoughts about who You might be. He sends a messenger to You to ask You for assurance. You answer the messenger and then turn to the crowd and say this, "yet whoever is least in the kingdom of
heaven is greater than he."
Everything You taught is opposite of how the world thinks. In the world, those who do the most, accumulate the most , give the most, and are the most are held in the highest esteem. John, like Samuel, Jeremiah, and Isaiah, were specially born to do special tasks to advance the Kingdom. Noah, Abraham, Aaron, Moses, David, Solomon, Josiah, and Ruth were specially chosen to do especially important things for Your Kingdom. We hold them in high esteem.
Here You say that the thief on the cross that trusted You for salvation that day is greater than not only all of them, but is greater than even John was. I believe You, but for me, this is still a great mystery!
