And to Perseverance, Godliness

2 Peter 1:6c “And to perseverance, godliness,”
My Lord and my God, show me what godliness looks like, and should look like, in my daily life.
Webster’s dictionary says that godliness if holiness or righteousness.  Holiness means belonging to, or devoted to God, sacred, pious, religious, or morally perfect.  Well, Lord, You and I both know that I am not morally perfect, though I strive to be.  There are little things that crop up in us:
·         Trying to think of ways to get out of doing something unpleasant You have asked me to do (maybe through my husband, family members, pastors, or co-workers).
·         Sending something personal to the printer at work.
·         Unkind words thought or spoken which shows the condition of my heart
·         Half doing a job instead of giving it all our full attention.
Lord, you know the list better than we do at times.
I also know that godliness does not come instantly when one becomes a Christ Follower.  Our “position” is in righteousness because of Your precious blood shed for us, but our thoughts and actions are transformed by Your Holy Spirit over time as our knowledge of You, Your ways, and power in our lives increases.
Bless You, Lord for the forgiveness You bestow on us when we confess and repent.  You restore us to service instead of casting us aside as the unworthy vessels that we are.
