1 Corinthians 5:12-13 "It
isn't my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your
responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning.
God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, "You must remove the evil person from among you."
References Deuteronomy "You must purge the evil among you."
For idol worship-17:7
For giving false testimony 19:19
For fornication and adultery 22:21, 24
For kidnapping to enslave a brother Israelite 24:7
Lord, Your churches to be the light of the world. A church who judges the unbeliever does not show Your love. The church that allows blatant, open sin that is described in Scripture cannot be a light in the darkness, but allows darkness to diminish its light. The church becomes indistinguishable from the world and is ineffective. That person's sin becomes the sin of the church as a whole.
We must never use this passage as an excuse to put folks out of the church we just don't like or do so in a vengeful way; but need to discipline the offender so they do not infect the church as a whole and cripple its effectiveness in the community.
Dearest Lord, may I walk worthy of Your calling so as never to be a stumbling block or even a bit of darkness in Your church. Convict me, Lord, of unconfessed sin so that I may confess and repent. I love You, Lord!
