1 Peter 3”4 “Instead, it should be that your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth to God.”
O Lord, is my spirit always gentle and quiet? More than anything, I want it to be! I know there are still times when I get impatient or exasperated. Lord, for those times I humbly ask for Your forgiveness.
I used to think this verse meant that I could not talk much and had to be so subdued that no one would even know that I was around. I came to realize that was untrue. I was so glad because You made me a very gregarious person. I realized that by quiet and gentle spirit You meant that I was not to be a spastic busybody or forceful know-it-all. I was not to be a hysterical screamer or fretful worrier. You meant that I was to be gentle and calm, lacking pride and selfishness, being meek not forceful…in the vernacular: I was not to be a “horsey broad”.
Lord, You are my example again! Thank You, Lord. That gentle and quiet spirit comes from being filled with, and controlled by, the Holy Spirit. He does not shout or scream, and is not pushy, but speaks in that “still small voice”.
