James 4: 2-3 “You want something but you don’t get it. You kill and covet (either literally or use character assassination), but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive because you ask with the wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”
O Lord, these verses are so easy to understand. Immediately I thought of David and Bathsheba, Samson and Delilah, and Ahaz and Jezebel. Each wanted something they did not have and killed to get it. Each one paid dearly for their sin too!
The corporate world is like that with their “dog eat dog” attitude. They destroy or mow over others to promote themselves so they can grab what they can from this world to spend what they get on themselves. Some politicians are like that, but they disguise it behind a false curtain of wanting the best for the country or community.
My greatest concern is for Your church. One might expect that behavior from the unsaved world, but it does not belong in the church. Some televangelists fleeced Your flock for the sole purpose of lining their own pockets or to obtain fame, and tried to defame others to make their own “light” shine brighter. They fell into the sins of selfishness and pride just like Satan and some have had to pay dearly. However; Your sweet name was tarnished in the process. We don’t have because we don’t ask or because our motives are selfish and sinful. Lord we are a sinful people!
Lord, I thank You for Your humble shepherds and sheep who live in humble means to promote others and most of all promote YOU to advance Your kingdom. Help me to always follow Your example in Gethsemane, “Father not my will but Yours be done.”
