God Alone is Lawgiver and Judge

James 4:12 “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy.  But you-who are you to judge your neighbor?”

God of wonder beyond our galaxy, You are holy, holy!
The universe declares Your majesty, You are holy, holy, Lord of Heaven and Earth.

 You and You alone are our Lawgiver so You and You alone can be the Judge.  We can get so “high and mighty”, so puffed up with our own importance that we feel somehow we have the right to judge our neighbor.  Our knowledge of a matter would be sketchy at best, but You are omniscient.  We tend to jump to conclusions. You never do because You know the whole matter and are true righteousness.  We tend to be prejudice, unmerciful and unloving.  You never are because You ARE unconditional love and mercy.  We want You to be all of those things for us, and You are to be our example.  Our judgment will be flawed, Yours never is.

            So, knowing all of these things, how in the world do we even consider the idea that we can judge our neighbor, or even ourselves?  How much more joyful and free we would be if we would leave this to You.  You are the only one who can save…or destroy.  We need neither to judge the wicked, nor get tied up in stress knots at the deeds of others.  Lord, if we would only learn to: keep our eyes on YOU, mind our OWN business, and do the work of our OWN hands as unto You, this would never be an issue.

            Help me Lord.  Help all of Your children to lead a life devoid of being judges over our brothers and neighbors.
