On Suffering
We walked along the road today,
My blessed Lord and I,
And spoke of many things of life
As the time went by
I asked him, “Why the suffering?”
He answered, “Don’t you know?
Without the suffering, my child,
My people just don’t grow!
They’d rather choose a way of ease,”
He continued on again,
“And grow flabby and content
With the world and all its sin.
But I know differently, my child,
To keep you fit and stable,
I have to let you have some pain
To show you that I’m able
To care for you and give you strength
To get you through each care,
To show you I control things,
To show you that I’m there.
That’s why there’s so much suffering
My child,” he said to me,
“I want my little ones to know
How much they mean to me.”
