Fighting with Ourselves

James 4:1 “What causes fights and quarrels among you?  Don’t they come from your desires that battle with you?”
Lord, my mom always said, “There can’t be a fight unless at least one person is being selfish.”  My mom was a wise lady.  In our flesh we are all selfish.  Newborn babies are selfish and are the center of their own world.  If you work in a daycare center, pre-school, or toddler nursery for about 10 minutes, you will learn that we all need to be taught to be unselfish.
Part of what makes (made) America great is that its people individually, and as a whole, held to the Biblical principle that we are to be concerned for others as well of for ourselves.  We fought in WWI and WWII not only to preserve our freedom, but to liberate others from tyranny.  The Korean War was fought for the freedom of the South Korean.  The war in Iraq started when we stepped in to help rid the tiny country of Kuwait, and then Iraq itself, of an evil dictator and the Taliban.  Agreed, we were also fighting to protect our country from terrorism, but never have we fought to increase our borders or conquer another people for our own growth and enhancement.  Lord that happens here only because of the foundation on which our country was built: Your heart, Your Word, and Your Ways.  Unfortunately, that foundation is beginning to crumble.
Fighting within the church, within our families, within the world, all around the world happen daily!  O Lord, deliver us from ourselves!
