The Lord Abhors Favoritism

James 2:9 “But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the (royal) law as lawbreakers.”
Lord, thank You for having James write this verse.  It is not just a “bad idea” or “not nice” to show favoritism, it is a violation of Your royal law!
If I break a civil law, I can expect to be convicted in that civil court and to suffer the consequences: fines, forced community service, or incarceration.  If I break Your law and do not immediately confess and repent, I suffer the consequences as well: broken fellowship with You, unheard and unanswered prayers, and Your discipline You administer in an effort to bring me back.
Within the church family or within our own families, Lord, You abhor favoritism. This is serious business with You, Lord.  Help me to see it to be as serious as You do.
