We can Tame an Elephant, But Not the Tongue

James 3:7-8a  “All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being, and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue.”
            Sweet Lord,
This morning two things stand out to me in this passage.  The first is that long before our Sea World and places like that existed; men were taming “creatures of the sea”.  It may be our “nature”, but we tend to think that what has been accomplished in our generations is new and innovative.  How arrogant and prideful!  Would James have been speaking of goldfish and turtles or maybe dolphins?
The second is that by ourselves, without the Holy Spirit’s help and intervention, we cannot and will not tame the tongue.  Oh, how we need His help, Lord.  Thank You for not leaving us alone down here after You went back to Heaven!  Guard my heart and mouth today Lord as I speak to all You place in my path.
